Driving directions from Liberia Airport:
Coming out of the airport you will make a right hand turn traveling west. Continue west for about 20-30 minutes to a little town called Belen where you will turn right. There is a new gas station at this turn. The area is well marked; you will see signs for Playa Flamingo, Playa Grande, and Playa Tamarindo. After the right hand turn in Belen follow this road for about another 20 minutes where in a small village called Huacas you will take a left hand turn following the signs to Playa Tamarindo. Three to four miles down the road you will take a right hand turn to Playa Tamarindo; again this is well marked. This road leads you right into town....when you get into town (you will be right along the ocean at this point) follow the printable map to your destination.
Driving directions from San Jose:
From San Jose follow signs to Puntaranas but rather than enter Puntaranas you’ll head north towards Liberia on Pan American Highway #1. 18 km south of Canas (about 2 hours out of San Jose) you’ll make a left hand turn for the Tempische River Bridge (well marked, by Costa Rican standards). You’ll be driving through Guanacaste cattle farm land for at least 25 km, will cross the bridge and drive another 5-10 minutes when you will make a right turn to head toward Nicoya and Santa Cruz. Drive through Santa Cruz; and approx. ˝ km after the stop light in Santa Cruz you make a left hand turn for Tamarindo (approximately 30 km). From now on you’re on dirt road; follow the signs to Hacienda Pinella (a gated community and golf course), then continue on to Tamarindo (approximately 15-20 minutes). Once in Tamarindo follow the printable map to your destination.
